2011 Class Policy - Pre-registration is required for each class along with your credit card number, check or cash deposit in the amount of the class fee. Registration may be over the phone or in person at the shop. Cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance in order for a class fee refund. The Bead Boutiques phone number is 410-535-6337. The alternative phone number, 443-624-0149, can be called to cancel a class as well. The Bead Boutique will call to remind you of your scheduled class up to 2 days prior. The Bead Boutique has the right to cancel any class due to lack of participation, however, we will give you 24 hours notice as well. Thank you.

Introduction To Metal Clay: (4-hours)
Curious abut Metal Clay? This class was designed to offer basic instruction in metal clay techniques. Rolling, texturing, cutting and adding a bail to a pendant will be covered. You will complete your pendant by torch firing, tumbling to a high shine and adding a patina, if desired. No stone setting or inclusions, just metal clay. A perfect opportunity to get your hands into this medium, and have fun creating your one-of-a-kind pendant!

We will show you all the wonderful things you can do with a dremel – from drilling into metal and polishing with it as well. Students will also be able to use a flex shaft in class. If you have a dremel or flex shaft please bring it! Students are also asked to bring something of their own they would like to polish. We will have practice metal pieces for drilling.

This is truly a very unique slinky bracelet that looks like Jacks! Using .999% pure silver wire students will form rings on a dowel, cut with a jewelers saw, fuse with a torch, form the shape, and ring by ring, bar by bar, fuse the bracelet together. It takes a while to create – but it is well worth it! Every piece of the bracelet is made my you. We will not finish this bracelet in class! students must have their own fusing supplies at home in order to finish their bracelet. Please call with any questions.

You will learn about the several different beading wire and crimps available. We will also teach the art of twisting wire to form a wrapped loop that is as secure as a soldered piece of jewelry. This class will teach you how to make professional earrings and give you the foundation for doing any other wire working techniques you will want to learn. You will also be taught how to use the proper tools and about the differences in metals. A must for the beginner or the person who has been self taught. 2 ½ hours.

Metal Fusing is a no-fuss version of Silver Metalsmithing. Fine silver is heated with a torch to fuse it without solder – It is a very cost effective way to learn basic metalsmithing skills. Even the most basic beginner and the most experienced jewelry maker will find silver fusing to be fun and easy to master. You can make projects right at your kitchen table!

Parallel Chain Neckdrape (3 hrs)

This neckdrape was created to compliment the parallel chain bracelet. The gold and silver “V” attaches beautifully to a leather neck cord. Students will learn how to make a loop at the end of leather cords and attach the loops to a clasp.

Introduction to Precious Metal Clay (PMC)

Design you own fine silver jewelry from precious metal clay. PMC is made of tiny particles of silver suspended in an organic binder and water. When fired in a kiln, or with a butane torch, the binder burns off leaving an item that is pure silver (.999 fine silver). Learn how easy it is to mold, shape, and texture this clay into your own one-of-a-kind earrings and pendant.
Supplies: 1 package PMC Clay 16 grams, 1 Tool Kit, 1 pair sterling ear wires, stones and beads of your choice. 1 CZ (to set in pendant). 1 foot 20 ga SS round ½ hard wire.

Parallel Chain Maille Bracelet with Sterling Silver & Gold Filled Jump Rings

The Parallel chain is made up of small gold jump rings attached to larger sterling silver jump rings, then encircled by a third large silver jump ring (it looks as though it is floating in the chain) This is a great introduction to the art of Chain Maille (mail). Knotting Pearls & Beads Basics

Learn the art of knotting between beads. This class will teach you how to start and finish a knotted necklace using clamshells/bead tips, and silk cord. Two types of necklaces are offered to learn in your kit choices. Flat Band Rings (3 hours)

Learn how to size rings in PMC 3. Texture your band and add a CZ to the top of your ring. Instruction will include how to make and join a flat band ring. Previous experience with PMC necessary.
Ring sizes are not guaranteed as clay shrinks 8-10% in firing. However, we will be using ring mandrels to limit shrinking in the kiln to your specific ring size (this has produced pretty accurate results). We also have a choice of 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand as possible destinations for our new rings!

Criss Cross 2 Tone Bangle (3 Hrs)

Twisted gold square wire is criss crossed over sterling silver wire to create this beautiful two toned bracelet. Wire wraps are created in gold to complete the gold and silver design. Basic wire working knowledge is helpful..not necessary.

Byzantine Bracelet (3 hrs)

One of the most popular and versatile of the chain maille weaves. Once you master this weave you can change the size of the jump rings to make a fine neck chain to hold a beautiful focal bead,, add beads to a bracelet or allow the chain to sparkle beautifully alone.

Braided Bead Bangle:(3 hrs)

This braided wire bead bangle class will teach students how to make wraps with ½ round wire and incorporate a hook and eye clasp. Previous wire wrapping experience is recommended but not required. Multi colored beads makes this bracelet fun to wear with many items in your wardrobe!

Five Bead Bangle Bracelet (3 hrs)

5 sparking 8 MM Swarvoski crystals or 8 MM round beads of your choice, combined with twisted silver wire makes a stunning bracelet. Advance your wire working skills by learning to twist square wire and wrap it to create a focal point of beads on a solid bangle bracelet. Previous wire working experience is necessary as students must know how to wrap a bundle and twist square wire.

Setting non-fireable stones and Pearls in PMC

(2 evenings first class is 3 hours-second eve. -
2 hours to place pearl and stone and complete finishing.
In this class we will be using pre made fine silver stone mounts and fine silver wire to set a pearl and a faceted stone after firing. The pendant will be a heart outline shape...one side of the heart will be textured like bark. Instruction will include how to create a mirror finish on the other half of the heart outline. Previous metal clay experience is necessary.

PMC Hollow Bead Forms (Advanced)
(2 evenings 3 hours for total of 6 class hours)

During this advanced class for metal clay you will learn how to make an armature for hollow beads from cork clay, cover with silver clay, then embellish your beads with paper clay appliques. Learn syringe techniques by creating a pair of “free form” lacy earrings. Three forms of clay will be used to make a pendant and earrings. Previous basic metal clay experience is necessary as the class moves quickly through the projects. Please bring your tool kit from the Introduction class.

Double Spiral Rope Bracelet (3-hours)

Prerequisite: Experience with single spiral rope or flat double spiral rope required.
Learn how to do the versatile double spiral rope and make a wonderful bracelet in the process. You use accent beads in either or both of your spirals. The larger your accent beads the bigger around your bracelet to be. A contrast in either value light and dark) or color will make your DSR pop, for a more subtle look keep your values and colors closer together.
